The "Improving the Self-Reliance & Resilience of Rural Communities of Bidar District Project," is an initiative undertaken by Reliance Foundation, aims to enhance the livelihoods and well-being of rural communities. Geography coverage of the project by PRAWARDA is covering 180 villages in five blocks (Bhalki, Humnabad, Basavakalyan, Hulsoor, Chitguppa) of Bidar district, the project addresses key challenges like water scarcity, agricultural productivity, and poverty in the district. Through a participatory approach, the project engages communities in decision-making, ensuring sustainable and locally relevant solutions. With continued support from Reliance Foundation and active community involvement, this initiative has the potential to serve as a model for rural development in other regions. this program is “integration of development program activities towards rehabilitation and building Climate Resilience for Sustainable Development Program(CR4SD) , this theme has transformed the lives of communities and farmers across 67 villages through a participatory approach. We have successfully created a water harvesting capacity of 11.43 lakh cubic meters, optimizing water utilization across 240 hectares. Additionally, 2,354 hectares have been brought under climate-adaptive farming practices, while 2,385 households have embraced diversified food production and consumption methods under climate resilience for sustainable development (CR4SD). As part of Integrated Value Chain Development Initiative (IVCD), we have enhanced farming practices across 2,420 hectares in 180 villages by adopting precision farming technologies. This initiative is designed to boost farmer incomes through value addition and improved price realization. Through the Farmer Producer Organization (FPO) platform, we have successfully supported 4,349 farmers, generating an impressive turnover of ₹8.99 crore. By empowering farmers with innovative practices and market access, we are driving sustainable growth and prosperity in the agricultural sector. Enhancing Farm Livelihoods and Empowering Women (DRIWE) To improve existing farm livelihoods, we have supported 4,898 members, ensuring social entitlements for 4,668 individuals. Our focus on digital literacy has empowered 4,545 women members, equipping them with valuable skills and encouraging them to leverage their daily routines for business opportunities.
PRAWARDA, with the support of NABARD, has promoted five Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) in Bhalki Taluka, Bidar district, benefiting farmers from 14 villages. These FPOs aim to empower small and marginal farmers by improving access to quality inputs, enhancing market access, and boosting economic stability. Key initiatives include bulk procurement of seeds, fertilizers, and machinery, along with value-added services like the establishment of Mini-Daal Mill centers to process pulses, increasing farmer profitability. These FPOs have successfully registered under the MSME Udyam portal, gaining access to government schemes, subsidies, and financial support. Additionally, they are trading on the ReMS platform and NCDEX, ensuring better price realization for their members. Partnerships with different market players further open direct market access, reducing intermediaries and improving profit margins for farmers. To strengthen leadership and governance, specialized training programs have been conducted for the FPOs’ Board of Directors and CEOs & members. Moreover, FPOs have developed comprehensive business plans, outlining strategies for sustainable growth. Through strategic registrations, market partnerships, and capacity-building efforts, these FPOs are driving agricultural development, enhancing livelihoods, and contributing to the broader agricultural economy.

The Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayi Yojana (PMKSY) is a flagship initiative of the Indian government aimed at improving water resource management in agriculture. The Watershed Development Component-2.0 (WDC-2.0), part of this scheme, focuses on rain-fed areas to promote rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and sustainable agricultural practices. PRAWARDA is actively involved in implementing WDC-2.0 across two watersheds in Bidar district—Chiknagaon in Basavakalyan and Ekamba in Aurad—spanning 11,000 hectares. Working with the ADA Agriculture Department, PRAWARDA has mobilized local communities, collecting baseline data from over 4,300 households, and raising awareness through Jathas, street plays, and Gram Sabhas. Additionally, 80 Self-Help Groups (SHGs), 67 User Groups, and Village Watershed Committees (VWCs) have been formed to ensure community participation in sustainable land and water management. Through this initiative, PRAWARDA has built the capacity of farmers and SHG members by providing training on watershed development, agriculture, and horticulture, fostering long-term environmental and economic benefits. WDC-2.0 stands as a critical effort in transforming rain-fed areas into productive agricultural landscapes through active community engagement and sustainable water management practices.
The Migrant Targeted Intervention (MI-TI) Program, implemented by PRAWARDA in partnership with the Karnataka State AIDS Prevention Society (KSAPS) in Bidar district, focuses on HIV prevention and healthcare services for vulnerable migrant populations. Migrants face heightened risks of HIV transmission due to mobility, social exclusion, and limited healthcare access. Given Bidar's location near state borders and its industrial growth, the area attracts a significant number of migrant workers, making targeted health interventions crucial. PRAWARDA conducts migrant mapping and community profiling to better understand and serve these populations. Peer educators from within the migrant community play a vital role in conducting awareness sessions, distributing condoms, and encouraging HIV testing, fostering trust and reducing stigma. Migrants have been educated through peer-led sessions, ORW led session, ORW & Peer led session, condoms were distributed through social marketing channels. The program has also established accessible Integrated Counseling and Testing Centers (ICTCs), where migrants were tested for HIV, and received counseling. In addition, health camps provided check-ups to migrants, and individuals received free STI treatment. Migrants who tested positive for HIV were linked to Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) centers for ongoing care. Through community collaboration, awareness camps and mid-media events reached migrants, raising HIV awareness and promoting healthcare engagement. This initiative continues to provide crucial support to one of the most vulnerable groups, ensuring access to healthcare and HIV prevention services.
The Chitta(K) CBP Watershed Project, spearheaded by PRAWARDA with support from NABARD, focuses on rejuvenating degraded lands and ensuring water security in rural areas. The Capacity Building Phase (CBP) plays a vital role by empowering the local community through skill development and knowledge sharing, ensuring they can effectively manage and sustain watershed activities. NABARD’s financial and technical support has been crucial to the project’s success, helping establish watershed committees that involve diverse community members, including women and marginalized groups. This inclusive approach fosters a sense of ownership and responsibility, enhancing the sustainability of the project. Key interventions include the construction of field bunds and waste weirs, which help prevent soil erosion and retain moisture in the soil. Additionally, forestry plant saplings were planted along bunds, contributing to biodiversity, soil health, and climate change mitigation. Livelihood support was also extended to marginalized groups, with dairy, goat, and poultry units distributed to landless women beneficiaries. As the project moves into its Full Implementation Phase, the foundation laid during the CBP will guide its future, ensuring continued success in soil and water conservation, livelihood diversification, and community empowerment. The Chitta(K) watershed project stands as a model for sustainable rural development.
